Income Streams - Is one job enough?

The jobs are just not a sure thing anymore.  How many times have you heard a friend or a family member share the news that they have been fired or laid off?  It just keeps on happening.  People want to think that the jobs are always going to be around, but they just get the big surprise that the companies that they work for have different plans and it can happen really quick.

The people really feel like they are getting blindsided.  People have this romantic notion when it comes to getting a job and thinking that the whole process of working in a job will be good until they are ready to retire.  The job markets are just like any other kind of market.

Companies are constantly in flux.  Employees don't really see the whole picture.  They just do their small part of the bigger whole.  The company is working in the marketplace with all the different competition and risk.  Employees might think that the job is immune, but the market is still at play.

Does starting your own business mean that you are selfish?  People have to look out for their best interest.  Creating another stream of income with a business is just like a safety net.  Creating more income streams should be a part of the plan.

Creating a business does not mean that it will prove to be unlimited income in your bank account.  There are still problems on the business side of the fence, but at least you are setting up your own options for going after more work and income.  With a job, you are dealing on the terms of the boss.  With your own business, you are setting the course and chasing the income.
